Crumb Coat

Frustrated on getting crumbs stuck on your frosting? Wondering how to achieve that smooth, professional look on your cakes? What you need to do is crumb coat your cake.

What is crumb coat?
Crumb coat is a term used in the baking world which refers to applying a thin layer of frosting to the cake so that those tiny annoying crumbs stick to where it should be. This technique is essential especially for cakes with light coloured finish.

Here's a great video by cakeb0t showing you on how to split, fill and crumb coat your cake.
